Columbus police have named the suspect in a fatal double shooting on the city's East Side — and they say he's still out there.
Michael Rashawn Wells, 32, has been charged with murder and felonious assault in an October 4 shooting that killed 39-year-old Jeffrey Scott Amaker and wounded a relative who was with him, according to police.
What happened
Officers responded at 2:14 a.m. to the 900 block of Barnett Road on a report of a shooting and found Amaker and a relative suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to a hospital in critical condition. Amaker died at 2:47 a.m., police said.
Police said Amaker, his relative, and Wells had been involved in a fight in a business parking lot before the shooting. According to a criminal complaint filed by Columbus homicide detectives, witnesses saw Wells retrieve a gun from his car and shoot the two men before fleeing in a 2007 Toyota Avalon. Police recovered the car on October 5.
A man seen on surveillance footage wearing a "THINK" sweatshirt was identified by police as the shooter.
The manhunt
As of early the night of October 5, Wells' whereabouts were unknown. Police say he should be considered armed and dangerous — anyone who sees him should not approach him and should immediately notify police.
