Two found shot dead outside a Houston home — man charged with capital murder after a Flock camera tracked his car
Two people were shot to death in front of a north Houston home early Monday morning, and the man accused of killing them was in custody hours later — thanks to a license-plate camera that spotted his car.
What happened
The Houston Police Department said the shooting was reported around 8:20 a.m. Monday at a home on Lindale Street, just north of I-610 North. Officers arrived to find a middle-aged woman and a middle-aged man shot to death in front of the home.
Their names have not been released, and investigators have not announced a motive.
The arrest
A red Ford Fusion that police were looking for in connection with the shooting was picked up on a Flock camera network, according to the Liberty County Precinct 5 Constable's Office.
A deputy with the Liberty County Precinct 2 Constable's Office spotted the red Ford and called for backup. Liberty County Precinct 5 Constable David Hunter and another deputy responded and made a traffic stop.
After the stop, authorities say David Elijah Herrera, 31, came out of the car with his hands up and was arrested. He has been charged with capital murder.
The charge means Herrera is accused of killing more than one person in a single criminal act — under Texas law, capital murder carries the harshest penalties available.
