Federal Agents Search Rep. Ilhan Omar's Home in Pre-Dawn Raid
Graveyard Crew, this one's going to be in the history books: federal agents raided the home of a sitting member of Congress before dawn on Monday.
What happened
Early Monday morning, agents with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) — the investigative arm of ICE — descended on the Washington, D.C.-area home of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN). Multiple agents wearing HSI jackets were photographed outside the residence, and reporters saw agents carrying boxes out to government vehicles.
The Department of Justice confirmed the operation in a statement: "Today in the Washington, D.C. area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice. This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation."
What's behind it
The investigation centers on a criminal fraud probe into Omar's immigration paperwork — specifically documents completed by her late father when she was a child, after the family fled Somalia and arrived in the U.S. as refugees in the 1990s. Omar, born in Mogadishu, became a naturalized citizen in 2000.
The probe had been publicly acknowledged for weeks: White House border czar Tom Homan confirmed an ongoing criminal investigation involving Omar in September, and Vice President JD Vance said in March the administration believed fraud had occurred and they were evaluating options to "go after" her. Trump and allies have long accused Omar of immigration fraud tied to her marital history — accusations she has repeatedly denied.
Neighbors heard it start
Neighbors on the quiet residential street — where Omar, 44, and her family have lived at least three years — described hearing loud banging on the door around 4 or 5 a.m., followed by a man screaming "Open the door, open the door." Agents arrived around 6 a.m. per Fox News reporting.
Omar responds: "political intimidation"
"I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement," Omar wrote on social media. "For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation." She added: "I will not be silenced."
House Democratic leadership, including Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, called the raid "deeply disturbing" in a joint statement — and noted the timing: less than 30 days until the midterm election, with Omar facing reelection in 22 days.
The Night Desk take
Whatever your politics, a pre-dawn raid on a sitting congresswoman's home — with the DOJ confirming a judicially authorized warrant — is a five-alarm story. The DOJ has not disclosed the specific allegations behind the warrant. Omar's camp says intimidation; the administration says equal justice.
The one thing everyone agrees on: this isn't over. Expect more by morning — DEVELOPING.
