Manhunt Day 2: Corey Huff Fled Into the Woods After Police Pursuit

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The search for Corey Huff entered its second day Monday, after the 41-year-old murder suspect led deputies on a pursuit Sunday night, abandoned his truck, and vanished into dense woods north of Knoxville.

Huff is wanted for first-degree murder in the stabbing death of a man found outside the Kenjo convenience store at 1704 N. Broadway just after 6 a.m. Sunday, October 4. Knoxville police say the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released, and investigators have not said whether Huff knew him or what led to the stabbing.

The Sunday night run-in

According to the Knoxville Police Department, Huff was spotted just before 8 p.m. Sunday at a gas station on Norris Freeway. An Anderson County sheriff's deputy attempted a traffic stop — and Huff didn't stop.

The pursuit ended on Carden Gap Road, where Huff ditched his red 2005 Chevrolet Silverado (Tennessee plate 672BSFG) and ran into the woods.

What followed was a massive response: officers and deputies from the Anderson County, Knox County, Union County, and Blount County sheriff's offices, plus the U.S. Marshals Service, established a perimeter and searched for hours, with Knox County Sheriff's Office AirWatch and UAV (drone) support.

By the end of the search, Huff was still nowhere to be found — though police did seize his truck. Law enforcement planned to resume the search near Carden Gap Road on Monday.
