Brother Charged With Murder in Stabbing Death of 15-Year-Old Trenton Grant, Monroe Township

A Michigan teenager is dead, his mother and stepfather are seriously hurt, and the man prosecutors say did it is the victim's own older brother.

What happened

Just before 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2026, Monroe County Sheriff's deputies were called to a mobile home in the 1200 block of Raintree Boulevard in Monroe Township on reports of an active assault — and a fire. When they arrived, the home was burning. Inside, deputies found 15-year-old Trenton Grant, a sophomore at Monroe High School, dead. Several other people were found with stab wounds and lacerations, and multiple people were taken to hospitals for treatment.

The Monroe County Prosecuting Attorney confirmed it was a stabbing incident. The sheriff's office treated the case as a homicide from the start, and called the violence an isolated incident — no danger to the rest of the neighborhood.

The charges

On October 22, Monroe County Prosecutor Jeffery Yorkey announced charges against Tyson Grant, 27:

Counts one through five each carry a maximum penalty of life in prison. Tyson Grant is currently hospitalized in Lucas County, Ohio, with injuries from the incident; prosecutors say they will seek to extradite him to Monroe County for arraignment once he is discharged.

The charges are accusations only. Tyson Grant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The family

A family member told FOX 2 Detroit that the person in custody is Trenton's older brother. The family said their father died several years ago and that Tyson had stepped up and stayed at home — and that his mental health had deteriorated over the past week or so. A memorial of balloons and flowers has been growing outside the family's home.

Trenton was remembered as a Monroe High sophomore; the school brought in support staff for students in the days after the attack.

What's next

Tyson Grant remains in an Ohio hospital. When he is released, Monroe County prosecutors will move to bring him back for arraignment in the Monroe County 1st District Court. The investigation is ongoing.
