Man charged with aggravated murder after fatal shooting at Cuyahoga Falls Natatorium
CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio — A Sunday morning at a local natatorium turned deadly when a man walked in and shot a female instructor, who later died from her injuries, city officials said.
The 61-year-old victim, whose name has not been released, was shot around 9:30 a.m. at the Natatorium on 4th Street in Cuyahoga Falls, according to the medical examiner's office. She was rushed to Summa Health System's Akron campus, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The suspect
Police identified the shooter as Craig Alan Sipe, 63, of Akron. According to a news release from the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department, Sipe entered the Natatorium in the early morning, shot the instructor — the only victim — and then fled the area. He later turned himself in to Cuyahoga Falls police.
Police say the incident is believed to be domestic-related.
Charges
Sipe has been charged with one count of aggravated murder and is being held at the Summit County Jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, Oct. 19.
The Brooklands Speakeasy on The Brooklands Avenue in Akron, which Sipe owned, has been closed since a July 2025 social media post announced a temporary closure. The Natatorium is expected to be closed for the remainder of Sunday and on Monday.
Investigation ongoing
Police said the homicide case is still under investigation and additional information will be released as it becomes available. Anyone with information should contact the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department.
This article is based on reporting by the Akron Beacon Journal. All charges are allegations; Sipe is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
