Woman and Boy Under 10 Found Shot Dead Inside Indianapolis Condo
INDIANAPOLIS — Two people are dead — including a child younger than 10 — after a shooting inside a condo on the city's northwest side Sunday afternoon, police say.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were dispatched about 1:05 p.m. Sunday to the Village at Eagle Creek Condominiums, 4400 Village Lane, on a report of a person shot. Inside the condo, arriving officers found a woman and a boy with gunshot injuries. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. A firearm was also found, police said.
"It's an unthinkable tragedy," IMPD Officer Drew Brown said.
All possibilities on the table
When asked whether the department was investigating the case as a possible murder-suicide, Brown said investigators are looking at all possibilities. Brown said there is no ongoing threat to the public and that a "cooperative witness" is helping the investigation.
The Marion County Coroner's Office, which will determine both decedents' cause and manner of death, has not yet released their identities.
"We want to work to see what led up to this," Brown said. "It's too early to tell exactly what the circumstances are and those questions are going to be asked and hopefully answered in the coming hours and days."
A hard stretch for one district
Members of the police department's wellness team were on scene to support responding officers — some of whom had responded to a fatal double stabbing in the same district about a week earlier. Several days after that, officers responded to a double shooting involving adult siblings that the coroner ruled a murder-suicide.
