The arrests
Four teenagers have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Cameron Frierson on August 21, Nashville police announced in an October 2 news release.
The teens charged — another 16-year-old, two 17-year-olds, and an 18-year-old — face charges of criminal homicide and engaging in a criminal conspiracy, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department. The teens were not named.
The night of August 21
Frierson, a Hunters Lane High School student, was walking less than a block away from the football field where Pearl-Cohn High was facing Montgomery Bell Academy that night. Around 10:30 p.m., witnesses told police that shots rang out from a white sedan with tinted windows near Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church on Herman Street near the 25th Avenue North intersection.
The teen was struck multiple times and rushed to the hospital, where he died.
The reward that helped
In the wake of Frierson's death, thousands of dollars poured into a GoFundMe for his funeral expenses, and a reward was offered for information about the shooting. The reward grew to $20,000 after political and sports commentator Clay Travis added $15,000 to the initial $5,000 offer.
What's next
No other information on the arrests or the investigation was immediately available October 2, police said. All four suspects are charged but not yet convicted; the case moves through the courts from here.
The Night Desk will update this story as the court proceedings develop.
