Pueblo Shooting Suspect Found Dead of Apparent Self-Inflicted Wound
PUEBLO, Colo. — A Pueblo shooting suspect died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in the early morning hours of Monday, Oct. 5, according to the Pueblo Police Department.
The department's communications center received a ShotSpotter gunshot-monitoring alert in the 1900 block of Lynwood Lane just before 1 a.m., and fielded several calls from people reporting that a man had been shot, police said in a news release.
Officers arrived to find the victim and began providing medical aid — but more gunfire erupted while they were treating him. The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment of at least one gunshot wound. Police say he is reported to be in stable condition.
Police established a perimeter and issued announcements ordering the suspect to come out. Instead, officers found the suspect dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police say an AR-style rifle was found with the suspect.
The Pueblo County Coroner's Office has not yet publicly identified the suspect.
"Fortunately, no further injuries have been reported," police officials said.
Developing story — the suspect's identity and the events leading to the shooting are still unconfirmed.
