20 Years Gone, No Answers: The Disappearance of Margaret Haddican-McEnroe

A mother of three, gone in 90 minutes

Margaret Haddican-McEnroe was 29 years old, an Army veteran and a volunteer firefighter, living on Washington Valley Road in Warren Township, New Jersey. On the afternoon of October 10, 2006, she was home. Her husband, Timothy McEnroe, says he last saw her around 1:30 p.m. before leaving to run errands. When he came back about 90 minutes later, she was gone.

She took no car. No cellphone. And her infant daughter was found alone in her crib.

Her husband waited two days to report her missing. He told investigators he believed she would come home on her own.

Twenty years, no charges

In the two decades since, no one has ever been charged in connection with Margaret's disappearance. Her family does not believe she walked away.

"I believe she was murdered, but I'm not going to accuse anyone when I can't prove who did it," her sister Adrienne Haddican told MyCentralJersey. "That's law enforcement's job. But I want them to follow the evidence wherever it leads."

The day before she disappeared, Margaret allegedly told her father she planned to divorce her husband and take the children. That evening, her mother received a call from Margaret asking whether she could bring the kids and stay with them the next day. She never arrived. The family says police told them there was no indication a crime had been committed, and they did not learn from police that Margaret was missing until several days after she vanished.

The FBI's renewed push: up to $25,000

In August 2026, the FBI renewed its push for information, announcing a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in Haddican-McEnroe's disappearance.

The wording of the reward stood out to Adrienne: it focuses not on her sister's whereabouts, but on those responsible.

"Twenty years changes a lot, relationships, loyalties. Someone who wasn't willing to talk then maybe will talk now," she said.

This month, the case is featured on a digital billboard along Interstate 287 south in the Edison-Metuchen area with a simple message: "Someone knows something."

What she looked like

At the time of her disappearance, Margaret was 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighed about 110 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing:

She has a tribal tattoo on her stomach, multiple tattoos on her back, and a firefighter's helmet tattoo on her left calf. She may have been carrying a black bag containing additional clothing. She may also use her birth name, Sherwood Haley.

Saturday's memorial

The family will gather for a balloon release and prayer service at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10 in the garden at Our Lady of the Mount Roman Catholic Church, 170 Mount Bethel Road in Warren, as part of their annual memorial observance. Margaret's mother, Eileen, is 83 now. She has spent twenty years wondering what happened to her daughter.

Margaret's three daughters, now 29, 21, and 20, still have questions. "All we can tell them is that we know your mom would never leave you," Adrienne said. "She was a fighter."
